Shotgun Scabbard Variations
There are several different styles and variations of shotgun scabbards in the market today. Some are made for tactical use, some for general use, and some are meant to keep your gun in for storage or protection. In this article we want to outline some of the different types of shotgun scabbard variations that are available for purchase on our site.
1- Condor Shotgun Scabbard One of the most popular scabbards is the Condor scabbard. This scabbard isn't the most expensive but it's not a cheaply made scabbard either. It's designed more for shoulder carrying with an adjustable strap but does have webbing that can be used to attach it to a tactial pack or Molle pack. There are several different colors to choose from for this particular brand that include green, tan, and an assortment of camo colors. Some of the main complaints about the condor shotgun scabbard is that it fits a little to tight to some size barrels. It seems to be most compatible with 18-20" barrels.
2- Molle Shotgun Scabbard Universal Mount Sling This scabbard is awesome! It's designed to fit 12-gauge shotguns and fits most guns perfectly. It's made with PALS webbing that can be mounted onto Molle and PALS style packs and is made from heavy duty nylon material that is very durable. The softer inner lining does have a tendency to rip or tear after time which is one of the only downfalls of this shotgun scabbard. It comes in different camo colors from green, gray, brown and black. This case can also be used for shoulder carrying and is set up from quick gun removal making it ideal for tactical and hunting situations.
3- Colt Tactical Gear Shotgun Case Colt is a solid brand that has started making cases and scabbards. They are definitely not the most expensive and you can usually find a nice quality scabbard for a reasonable price. Most of their scabbards and cases come in black and are mostly meant for shoulder/back carrying. It comes with an ambidextrous shoulder strap that is durable and reliable. Some of their products come with side straps that can be used in mounting the scabbard to a tactical pack of some kind so you'll want to pay attention to that when deciding on which style you want. Overall, this is a high value scabbard but isn't necessarily designed for tactical situations.
4- Vism by NcStar Tactical Shotgun Scabbard This is one of the best shotgun scabbards on the market. It's built for universal use. It can be used for general carrying and packing, but also is set up and designed to be one of the most effective scabbards in tactical situations as well. One of the best features is that it is adjustable to fit different size barrels. It's made from durable material and has extremely reliable PALS webbing that can be attached to molle packs and tactical packs. It can also be carried over the shoulder or back and comes fit with an adjustable strap. It has a buckle down strap to hold the firearm in place which is ideal for tactical and hunting needs. Sometimes you are running or hiking through tough terrain and having the strap holding it in place is a great convenience. This is really one of the highest quality and universal shotgun scabbard variations on the market. It comes in several different colors including camo variations.
5- Voodoo Tactical Shotgun Scabbard One of the most plain and simple but effective scabbards on the market. Comes with an adjustable shoulder strap along with webbing in case you decide to attach it to a pack or mount it. It doesn't have a hold down buckle but fits most guns pretty well. When is a Shotgun Scabbard necessary?
I'm sure if you own a shotgun, or any firearm, you have a case to keep it in. So the question is why would a scabbard be a necessity? Have you ever been hiking through the sage brush or reeds and had no use of your arms because you're carrying your shotgun? I know I have, and a scabbard is just the thing to keep your gun in while still being able to access it quickly. Obviously, if you're pheasant hunting you're not going to want to keep your gun in a case because you only have a few seconds to take the kill shot. The only problem is that sometimes you have to walk a pretty large distance to get to the right spot and the trek can be technical to say the least. This is when a case to sling around your shoulder comes in handy.
