In the industry of ballistic vests and bullet proof protection there are two basic categories, plate carrier vests and body armor. The plate carrier version does exactly what it says, carries a plate. Most plate carrier systems accept a plate that serves as the main protection but soft armor, such as kevlar, can also be sewn into the vest. The plate carrier system was introduced as a light weight alternative to the Outer Tactical Vests of the day. Most Condor plate carrier vests are compatible with the Molle style LARS webbing, like the Condor shotgun scabbard, which makes it easy to attach accessories like ammo packs and hydration packs. Besides the Condor plate carrier there are several other quality manufacturers that make these types of vests. Two of which are featured above, Tactical Assault and Blackhawk.
